Majandra Delfino, who just exited the ABC/20th TV comedy pilot Keep Calm And Karey On where she had a supporting role, was quickly cast as a lead in another 20th TV comedy pilot, Dana Klein’s CBS comedy Friends With Better Lives, which is directed by James Burrows. The multi-camera project, from 20th Century Fox TV and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment, revolves around six 30-something friends who each think the other has it better. Delfino, repped by APA and Ziffren Bittenham, will play one of them, Andi, an attractive and vulnerable mother of an infant and 3-year-old twins who is married to Bobby (Kevin Connolly) and is best friends with Jules (Brooklyn Decker) and Kate.
Majandra Delfino has departed ABC’s comedy pilot Keep Calm And Karey On, from writer/executive producer Andrea Abbate, 20th Century Fox TV and 21 Laps/Adelstein. The project centers on Karey (Kelly Preston), the clean-nosed black sheep in a family of petty thieves, drug addicts, and narcissists. When her brother is sent to prison, she decides to raise his kids along with her adopted black son and give them the normal lives they deserve. Delfino was to play Kaerey’s sister Penny. Delfino is the third actress on an ABC comedy pilot to depart in the final stages of casting this season, joining Mercedes Masohn from Mixology and Mandy Moore from Pulling. In all three cases, the actresses were among the first hired in the projects, and, with casts coming together, the dynamic on the shows and some of the characters changed, leading to the exits. For instance, Delfino was cast long before Preston, who is older than the Karey character was originally envisioned and two decades older than Delfino.
They’ll play the mother and sister of the lead character in the comedy from “Accidentally on Purpose’s” Andrea Abbate.
ABC has found the first actors to play its family of petty thieves.
Jane Seymour and Majandra Delfino have joined the cast of Keep Calm and Karey On, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The comedy centers on Karey, the clean-nosed black sheep in a family of petty thieves, drug addicts and narcissists. When her brother is sent to prison, she decides to raise his kids along with her adopted African-American son and give them the normal lives they deserve.
Delfino (State of Georgia, Men of a Certain Age) will play Penny, Karey’s self-centered and clueless sister, a singer-songwriter with questionable taste.
Seymour (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman, Ben and Kate) will portray Karey’s mother, Dotty. She’s self-centered, theatrical and often inappropriate.
Accidentally on Purpose‘s Andrea Abbate will pen the comedy for 20th Television, with Shawn Levy, Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements on board to exec produce. Gail Mancuso will direct the single-camera comedy.
Seymour is with Innovative Artists and N2N Entertainment. Delfino is repped by APA and Ziffren Brittenham.
